A US Navy warship successfully tested a high-energy laser weapon that could destroy the aircraft in the air. The Navy’s Pacific Fleet announced this. The Navy said in a statement on Friday (May 22) that the first system-level implementation of a “high-energy-grade solid-state laser to destroy a drone aircraft from the deck of the vessel USS Portland” in photographs and videos provided by the Navy “Was shown.
It did not provide the exact location of the Laser Weapon System Demonstrator (LWSD) test and said it was carried out on May 16 in the Pacific Ocean. The US Navy has been developing guided energy weapons (DEWs) since the 1960s, including the laser.
