Karnataka reported the highest number of 216 new cases of corona virus infection in one day on Saturday (May 23). With this, the total number of people infected with this epidemic in the state reached 1,959. The health department gave this information. According to the department, 187 of the newly infected people have returned from the neighboring state of Maharashtra.
Earlier on Tuesday, the maximum 149 new cases of Corona virus infection were reported on Tuesday (May 19). Then for the first time the state had crossed the 100 mark in terms of new cases every day. The health department said in its bulletin that by the evening of May 23, the total number of Kovid-19 patients in the state had reached 1,959. Of these, 42 patients died, while 608 patients were discharged from hospital after recovering.

The department said that 1307 patients are currently under treatment, including 1294 in separate wards of scheduled hospitals and their condition is stable. The remaining 13 are in intensive care unit. On Saturday, 11 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering. A 32-year-old man died on Saturday in Bengaluru urban area, the 42nd death in the state from Kovid-19.
The department said that out of the new patients, there are two people who have returned from Gujarat, Delhi and Tamil Nadu, while there is one person each from Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The rest are people who came in contact with the infected. Among the districts where new cases have been reported, 72 are from Yadgir, 40 from Raichur, 28 from Mandya, 26 from Chikkabalpura, 15 from Gadag and five from Dharwad.
On the other hand, a new case was reported from Bangalore Urban and Hassan, four each from Kolar, Udupi, Bidar, Davangere and Dakshina Kannada and one each from Kalburgi and Belagavi. In the case of Corona Varayas, Bengaluru urban district tops the list with 265 infected cases, while Mandya has 237 patients and Kalburgi with 135 patients.
