Cabinet group formed to give employment to laborers reached home, restrictions of state borders may end soon

Due to the lockdown across the country, it is becoming difficult to start the economic activities due to the migration of the workers from the villages to the cities, as well as providing employment to these workers has become a challenge. After the fourth phase of lockdown, ie after May 31, the restriction of the boundaries of the states can be ended.

High level efforts have started in the central government to provide employment to the laborers who have reached their homes. For this, a cabinet group (GoM) has been formed under the chairmanship of Social Welfare and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot.

After reaching the fourth phase of the lockdown and with many exemptions, a major obstacle in starting economic activities is the lack of labor. These problems have increased further due to the state’s borders being mostly closed for public transport and private transport. There is also a view in the government that when people can move from one state to another by train, the road boundaries should also be opened now. This will make it easier for people to access the work and the industrial units will benefit the most, which is in the border areas in most states.

In Delhi too, problems have increased due to the closure of borders in the NCR region. These can also be overcome when boundaries open. According to sources, when the fourth phase of lockdown is completed on May 31, these limits can be opened. However, even now the central government has told the states that they can start inter-state public transport services with mutual support, but in view of increasing cases of corona infection most of the borders are open with restrictions and public transport is almost closed. .

The figure of migrant laborers is gathering: The Central Government, meanwhile, has constituted a cabinet group headed by Union Social Welfare Minister Thawarchand Gehlot for the benefit of migrant laborers, which will collect data of these laborers and create opportunities for providing employment to them. The GoM has written a letter to all states that during the last two months, during the lockdown, the data of any migrant laborers, who arrived home by special train, foot or any other means, should be collected.

It was told in the instructions that the workers whose data will be collected, their skills and their work experience will also be written in it. The data will tell what kind of work the concerned laborers have done and what kind of work they are interested in. After giving the data of migrant laborers by the states, the information will be uploaded on the website along with the address of the village, tehsil and district.

Letter written to private sector also: The Ministry of Labor will also appeal to the central ministries and state governments to employ these migrant laborers in poor welfare schemes, by sharing the data of migrant laborers. Such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and National Highway Construction Scheme under MNREGA. The Skill Ministry will also start a program for training these migrant laborers. Besides, letters are also being written to private companies that they should also provide employment. In this GOM, along with Gehlot, Union ministers Mahendra Nath Pandey, Pratap Sarangi and G Kishan Reddy.
